The different processes of making a cushion

After deciding which fabrics I want to use, I start drawing, the different combinations
It’s easier to see it on paper, because once you cut the fabric, there’s no going back
So, I know it’s more time consuming, but it’s worth it, in the end

Once the pattern is chosen then I start the cutting

Kilts (Part II)

Once upon a time ……… they were Kilts and Skirts.
After a few hours, and with the greatest of helpers, they are not anymore

IMG_5523

A lot goes through my mind when I was undoing them.
If only the previous owners could see what I was doing to them…… well I thought a lot, about funny things
Anyway, first step, done. Well almost there’s another one that just been bought, there’s me saying that it would be almost impossible to get cheaper than I got, and I was wrong, my lovely aunt bought me one, for £2.50, it was on a 50% sale, I can’t tell you how much we’ve laughed about this.
Well now I’m ready for the next step, and this is the next step

IMG_5519

Lots and lots of ironing to take all the creases
It’s just amazing to see the amount of fabric that I have got
I’m sure there’s much more than one quilt here, but ……
At the moment there’s a lot of work going behind the camera for at least two/three weeks to allow this fabric to get to the ideal cutting stage
Just wanted to show you, what I was up to, and once this is ready, I start the quilt.
Meanwhile, I’ll jump to something else
Stay tuned Smile

And the journey continues

As I said I did visit the Charity Shops yesterday, and was amazed to find out that they also have sales.
Learn something every day
Anyway, found the navy one, but not the green one that I was after, but found another one that will mix with the others just as well

IMG_5518
At under £5.00 each I don’t think that I could do any better, all 100% wool
Let’s carry on with the use of that seam ripper
I can just imagine ‘this’ quilt Winking smile

21 January 2013

A Quilt will be

Going to the loft, at minus temperatures it’s not an easy job.
But I knew exactly where they were
These are the skirts that I buy from charity shops
These are the skirts that I’m going to make a nice winter quilt for my lounge

IMG_5510

IMG_5512

In total they are six, I need preferably an extra navy and a green one
Tomorrow I will be attacking the Charity Shops during my lunch break
I’ll let you know how I get on, meanwhile my seam ripper is going to be my best friend for a long long time Winking smile

Indecisive

Not like me but….
Last year I started buying skirts from Charity Shops, not any skirt, wool ones, some fantastic fabrics at really silly prices
I think the lady thought at one point that really unusual, a Lady always in jeans and trainers and cleared all her large woollen skirts
Noticed I mention large, yes because they have much more fabric
You have to be patient, to undo them all, but the fabric you have is just amazing, but above all the quality of it is just amazing
So I was buying them, to make bags but now I am confused
Las week I was very lucky to see a friend doing a quilt in wool fabric, it’s not easy to work with, but the result is just fantastic
Today it has been snowing all day, not that I haven’t got plenty of quilts, yes I do, but a woollen one would just be the perfect accessory in the lounge
This picture, shows a black one that I already unsewn it all

IMG_5506

The red fabric, my Mum knows me so well, and just send it to me today. Thanks Mum!!
Every little bit helps, I must have another six skirts in the loft that I need to take it to bits.
What do you think, do you agree with me that the quilt would be a great idea?
I’m very tempted Winking smile

Saturday

IMG_5479
Well, it’s been a pretty busy day!!
Outside it looks like this, so actually this is the Perfect Weather to stay indoors, and sew, and cook, and clean and tidy up.
Lots were done today.
And today I managed to finish the Baby Bag, (will have to take pictures with daylight)
And my Sewing Room is very compact, for the small side. And when I’m in a project I take all the fabrics, that I’m using, plus some that I think I might use, wadding etc etc
By the end of each project my room looks a bit untidy, I’m being nice here, probably a bit, wasn’t the right word Winking smile
And I can’t function with a ‘bit’ of untidiness.
Result takes a while to get it all sorted out, scraps to the scrap box, bigger fabric to other box, and so on
Now, it’s all done!!
And I’m already thinking in the next one
I have a WIP, yes one!! The girls do tease me about this, no Patchworker has ONE wip, well I do!!
Next month, if I don’t finish this one, I’m starting a new course, for another scrappy one, so then, I might have two
Meanwhile I fancy something smaller, for the time being
Time to research my books, and see what I fancy
There’s always lots mind you Winking smile

17 January 2013

Yet more …… Fabric

I cannot count my day complete
Till needle, thread and fabric meet

IMG_5456

Obviously the fabrics are just together for the pictures, not meaning they go together

IMG_5460

How cute is this Fabric?

IMG_5463

Just gorgeous is all I can say Winking smile

Baby Bag (unfinished)

Well I did say I might have finished the bag by now. Really did I say that?
I think I did, but…………. but,
I didn’t!!
I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and when I do something has to be done to the best of my knowledge.
Saying that, I think a lot, I turn, I measure and I measure again ad then I saw, everything has to be right
That’s where my time goes
And I’m enjoying every single step of this bag.
Because it’s all padded, put walking foot, take walking foot , and the time flies
I’m extremely Happy with this bag
First ,have to admit I thought that it was going to be bigger, but it’s just the right side actually
Seven, yes (7) big pockets, we all love pockets
There’s the handles and the final binding to go, and the bag will be finished
It has been a pleasure, it’s different but it’s a beauty, and I love it.

Tools

Whatever makes my life easier I’ll have them.
Who doesn’t dream of an easier life?
Not that cutting is my favourite job, no it’s not.
Actually is the one I like least
But somebody has got to do it, and if you are going to do it, let’s do it properly
Today the baby one arrived, for those small jobs, and to give the big one a rest
And a Special blade for the bigger one.
I do like to try new gadgets and anything that makes my Life so much easier

IMG_5441

6 January 2013

And I’ve started …

After the change of mind regarding fabric, I’m now very very Happy with the choice
Something wasn’t doing it for me
But now we are talking …..
The spotty one is now my background

IMG_5439

And yes those stripes are the pockets
I never said that it was going to be small…… did I?
Lots of pockets, in this case big ones I’m sure will come very handy Winking smile

IMG_5438

Now to be realistic, by Sunday (hopefully…. fingers crossed!!!) I can show you the bag
Because apparently @ work this is going to be the busiest week of the year
Have a great week xx

Change of mind

I do buy quite a bit of fabric, ok ok ....... quite a lot, I admit!!

One day that will be handy!! That's always my thought ;-)

Well tonight, on a Saturday evening, I decided to change my mind about the previous post and change that beige fabric, for one that just goes so much better, and decided to turn the bag a bit more boyish!

And guess what the fabric that saved me, was just one of those, that I bought 'just in case'

Wow!! This is just a fantastic feeling

And once I show you the picture you are going to agree with me

x

It’s not easy…

… choosing fabrics for a new project!
But after a lot of thinking I think that I’ve decided
Baby bag!! But not just a baby bag, something for after too
Now to try and imagine the two it’s hard work
If it was just baby, all the bright colours would be out, easy
But I wanted a bag for long after baby grows
Complicated?
Not really, just realistic ….
So I chose the colours and here they are

IMG_5434

Now let’s start the cutting and the first project of 2013!!
Have a great weekend everybody xx
