Temptation

… is just terrible!!
I was tempted by this book and guess what….. have to start an hexagon project!!
I blame the blogs that I have been reading, so much about hexies, and I love them.
And I also have two holidays lined up, easy to carry, handy to do while you are waiting , or when you are in a ten hour flight…
What a bunch of excuses!!
Easier would be to say, I’m easily persuaded. Full stop!!
So after a lot of reading and pondering what to do, not really, quite an easy decision really, here I go
You know what my problem is? seriously… it hurts to have to cut in my lovely fabric, it really does
How bad am I? Addicted?
Yes I am bad, and yes I am addicted
But you know what, I love it!!
So tonight I’m going to be strong, and choose from my smaller cuts some matching fabrics, you thought I was going for the yard or above?
Nooooo, not that brave!!
And tonight I am going to start my hexie project
I don’t plan, I have an idea, so I just go along… might follow a pattern, for once, doubt it, but I promise I will try
Sorry I have to go, I’m just excited to go and choose fabric, like a kid in a candy store….
This is serious addiction!!!
Please note I started writing this post one hour ago.
One hour later:

hexies
I don’t mess around do I?
Fantastic to use scraps, and cut some of my (bigger size) fabrics
Will look nothing like the one in the book, but the principle will be the same.
Might change my opinion tomorrow.
But for now, it’s lovelyyyyyyyyyyyyy to be back to the hand sewing. Love it!!

Wow…

It’s all I can say!!
I said I was going to put those squares to rest till September…… well wrong!!!
I saw a blog today, with a lovely quilt similar to the one I have been working.
And yes, I use numbers all day long, when I start in a quilt I don’t really use my calculator, wrong some would say.
As I was saying I saw this quilt today, and alarm bells started ringing…
There’s me, trying to insert extra rows, fancy rows, dreaming of colours, imagining things.Stop!!!
You have done quite a lot of squares already girl… how many beds are you trying to cover here??
Well so one gets home, and starts putting squares in my king size bed, I know I still have to allow to seams and all that, but….
But ….. you have in your bed at the moment 88 squares and you have done 120… oooppppsss
Just the 120 squares will be something like 55’ x 66’ and that’s without the borders

IMG_4747

Forget about all those fancy ‘in between’ rows. Forget all that!!
Let’s keep it simple!!
Sew all the squares together and then …. and only then add a border… or two….
Why do we complicate sometimes?
Or really why do I complicate sometimes?
When it’s just so easy!!

IMG_4748

It’s a busy quilt. True
I’m more of a sort of calm, soft, boring type of girl, but… I still love it
It’s different, and sometimes we have to change
By the way I am going I’ll soon have one for each day of the year lol
It’s my ‘ Simply Scrappy Quilt’ … think I just named it Winking smile
Next one will be calmer….. soft … and not boring at all!!

Organisation or madness?

As I get older, the more I use my diary.
And believe me I’m now on a A5 one, soon will be an A4
I couldn’t live without it, it has everything, and I mean everything.
Post it’s all over the place.
Appointments, shopping lists, for every event i.e.: holidays, birthdays, supermarket
When I think of something, it has do go down
Let’s not talk about all the passwords for the thousand and one sites that we have to log in.
So when the last page, starts to get really full, with stuff for 2013, what do I do?
Exactly it’s still August 2012 and my 2013 diary has lots of stuff already
Is it age, or is it a serious case of organisation malfunction?
Well whatever it is, it works for me.
I told you I am weird..
No news there Winking smile

Et voilĂ …

One hundred and twenty (120) squares later….
They are all done!!!

IMG_4736
First stage done!!
Now this quilt will rest till September till I speak to my mentors Winking smile
Have ideas, already but just not sure what colour to add.
Now it’s time to ponder!!!
Meanwhile while I was doing this today, guess what, talk about multitasking….
More fabric on the way, lots of plans for other quilts…
It has been enjoyable, to do this one, and I guess this was the most hard working part of this quilt, because by the end your scraps start running low
This one will be on stand by mode at the moment

Next….
One of my bestest friends is having a baby, and she asked for something, that will definitely be very challenging
There I was thinking baby quilts……. no … wrong
A bag for the nappies etc.…
Wow!!!
Just need to know if it’s a girl or a boy…..
I’m full of ideas already!!
Have a great week
xx

100th

70
Now……………………………. 100
Only 20 to go…….
It has been great to do this one, first to test my Patience, let me tell you it’s a real tester
And second because it has proven that I really love making scrap quilts, the pleasure of doing something useful from a bag of scraps, beats anything
Once the 120 squares are done, I will face another exciting challenge
What do do with them?
That is for the near future, at the moment is just to concentrate on the 20 that are missing
Exciting!!
Have a lovely weekend everybody

All booked!!

If there’s one thing I love, is holidays
If there’s one thing I hate is to book them, normal? Probably not
So for this year, all is booked, and all is sorted
Starting with five days in this beautiful city, always lots to do, always miss lots, because time is just so short.

I’m one of those that haven’t got a lot of holidays a year, shame really, and working on the travel business, I’m missing lots.
But hey, that’s why it’s so important to really enjoy the one’s I have.
So for the whole of two weeks this is going to be the scenery:

And lots and lots of this

I love there, and if I tell you it’s going to be my sixth time…..
Truly has everything that I need for the Perfect Holiday
All I need now is lots of books, wait till December and off I go!!
Koh Samui in Thailand is just the Paradise for me, it was on that beach, that I made one of the most important decision of my life
Never looked back!!
It’s very Special.

14 August 2012

Let’s carry on…..

…. sewing!!
Those two to three hours after dinner, when all is sorted out in the house, and that time is yours.
They are just fantastic
Really love sewing!!!

And we are marching along, n.85 just been finished!!
Have a lovely evening everybody x

More squares

I do love to be here in my studio, just with the sound of the sewing machine, and my thoughts just running wild, perfect end for a Monday evening.

And square n. 84 is finished.

Only 36 to go!!!

Hexa go-go

hexa

I have a passion for paper piecing, hexagons for a long time.
Perhaps it’s because I seem to have more control in the sewing, and never had to unsewn anything I’ve done
It’s relaxing and it’s so enjoyable
And when I saw this book, the alert signal, was on!!
Finally I got it, and didn’t realize that the author was one of those four people that wrote this book.
It’s really really nice, I can see myself doing some and not the lot because of the time issue ,of those projects
I truly recommend it!!
Lately I have to say, I have been so lucky, either in the choice of fabric, and in the choice of books.
And yes, there’s one more on the horizon, but hasn’t come out yet Winking smile
Another great book, another great choice.
Have a great week x

9 August 2012

Past Creations II

Sometimes, and as a good Gemini, I like to change, and vary a bit from Patchwork
As a young girl, I use to knit all my jumpers, I knitted lots, have to find some pictures to show you…
I really have lost touch with knitting, will have to get back to it one of these days
But one thing you never forget is crochet.
In my life I have been a very luck girl, both grandmothers, one in sewing, and one in crochet, they were just fantastic
And my Mum, how patient was she? She was the knitter, she was my teacher, she taught me all in knitting and in crochet
So I can say it ran in the family, sometimes I wished I had learned more, but you know what, I think that I did learn lots
That’s why, I consider myself so lucky, having had teachers like that, what more does one person want?
Unfortunately both my grandmothers never saw my Patchwork, they would have been so proud
But my Mum she knows exactly what I am doing, she knows my thoughts about Patchwork, and yes she’s my number 1 fan.
She just loves everything I do, she’s great.
Today I’m going to show you something I did in 2011.
It’s cute, it’s soft and I love it, and it’s very handy for those cold days while working in the computer
It’s my crochet blanket, so much fun to make it

Crochet ii

And the weekend is nearly here
Enjoy the rest of the week

5 August 2012

And the total is...

Wow, sewing and having the TV in front watching the Olympics is just great.

The squares are coming up

Have a great week

And we reached a nice round figure…… only 50 to go!!

IMG_4687

It’s quite difficult at times, specially when the parcel arrived from the USA, with lots of lovely fabric
You just want to do everything, so many plans ….. so little time
I now understand why quilters have so many Wip’s I’m trying to avoid going that way, having two or ok, three will be my maximum, I know, if I have more I would loose interest, so trying hard
It’s fun, it’s so enjoyable, that it’s quite difficult to put in words, the feeling I have when I am sewing.
Have a lovely Sunday

4 August 2012

And the collection keeps growing…

This book was done by 4 bloggers, two in the UK, one in Germany and one in the USA.
From the blogs I visit regularly, I only knew the last,I mentioned, the ‘Quilt Dad’ he’s such a talented guy
Well I’m sure the others are very talented too, I yet have to explore their blogs, one more thing in my’ to do’ list.
Just as well the British Summer…… how shall we say, summer probably this year is not the right word, it still has to show
But as I was saying this book is such a pleasure to read, great photos, great instructions, and thousands of ways to use the book, plus your imagination
I do love when I get a book that is much more than what you expected, and surely this one is amazing, and I well recommend it
Have a few plans already, yet,… more plans, awaiting for my fabrics to arrive, a quilter will understand me, because poor me, hasn’t got enough in her stash
